Zoo... what ?!

Originally, the Greek word ζωγραφία (zōgrăphĭ́ā) referred to the act of painting or drawing living things, particularly in the sense of portraiture or depictions of nature. Over time, the word came to mean "painting" or "art" more generally. It’s the root of the modern Greek word for painting (ζωγραφική) and is also reflected in words like "iconography."

Its etymology ζωγραφία (zōgrăphĭ́ā) comes from the combination of two roots:
1 – ζωον (zôion) – meaning "living being" or "animal"
2 – γράφω (gráphō) – meaning "to write," "to draw," or "to paint."

I like to think of art and drawing being related to the living and to some form of animality or animism, while art is also a very human form of expression.

Ah and by the way I'm Anthony, from Geneva, Switzerland. I used to work in publishing and am now employed in the heritage sector, while developing a parallel activity in illustration, graphic design and animation.
